Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko held a working meeting with the Governor of Kursk Oblast, Alexander Khinshtein. They discussed issues related to the development of education and science in the region, as well as preparations for the celebration of Kursk’s 1000th anniversary. The organizing committee for the preparations is headed by the Deputy Prime Minister.
“Kursk has an anniversary ahead – in 2032 it will turn 1000 years old. This large-scale celebration will allow for events to restore infrastructure and create new facilities for residents, so they can fully experience the socio-economic effect of this work. Preparations are underway by the order of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Overall, the Kursk region is one of the important scientific and educational centers of the country. Measures of the national project ‘Youth and Children’ – ‘Priority-2030’, and the federal project ‘Professionalism’ are being implemented in the region. I ask to continue active work in these areas,” stated Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the construction and reconstruction of educational infrastructure in the Kursk region. Thus, a cluster for the nuclear industry was opened in the region based at the Kursk State Polytechnic College. In total, within the framework of the federal project “Professionalitet,” 6 clusters have been created across 5 economic sectors for the years 2022–2026: nuclear industry, tourism and service sector, agriculture, pedagogy, and mining industry. These include 12 educational organizations and 38 employers. In 2027, another “Professionalitet” cluster in the machine-building sector will be established in the region.
In addition, the government of the Kursk region has signed a cooperation agreement with the Rosatom State Corporation, under which the construction of the Kurchatov College of Nuclear Industry is planned.
Dmitry Chernyshenko and Alexander Khinshtein discussed the admissions campaign for universities and colleges for the new academic year. Thus, almost 4 thousand state-funded places have been allocated to universities in the Kursk region for higher education programs. The largest number of places has been allocated to the fields of “Education and Pedagogical Sciences,” “Clinical Medicine,” “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries,” “Veterinary and Animal Science,” and “Construction Engineering and Technologies.”
Under the SPO programs, nearly 6,500 budget-funded places have been allocated to colleges in the Kursk region. The largest number is in the fields of “Nursing”, “Welder”, “Automobile Repair and Maintenance Specialist”, “Software Development and Management”, and “Maintenance and Repair of Motor Vehicles”.
Research projects supported by the Russian Science Foundation are being implemented in the region.
The Governor of the Kursk Region provided more details about the preparations for the celebration of Kursk’s 1000th anniversary.
“Not only will the historic center of Kursk undergo a radical transformation, but new attractions for tourists will also appear – art spaces, inventors’ houses, and a children’s science center, branches of federal museums, and old Russian estates will be revitalized. I am confident that people from all over the country will be drawn to Kursk, so despite the challenging situation today, we need to start working on creating new tourist routes and developing a tourism navigation system, and to form and approve the tourist code of the city of Kursk,” said Alexander Khinshtein.
