A meeting dedicated to the results of the activities of the Council of International Students (CIS) in the spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year was held at the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Educational ActivitiesSergey Mikhaylov,Head of the International Activities DepartmentShuainat Ahmadulayeva,Chairman of the Council of International StudentsAntonia Angelova,activists and graduates of SIO.
Opening the meeting, Sergey Mikhailov addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He noted that summarizing the work of the Council of International Students twice a year, at the end of each semester, has become a good tradition.
The vice-rector emphasized the importance of SIO’s activities for the university environment, the adaptation of international students, and the strengthening of intercultural dialogue at SPbGASU, and noted that the university traditionally brings together a large number of foreign students.
The chairman delivered the CIO activity reportAntonia Angelova. In the spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, the SIO implemented 25 activities aimed at supporting international students, developing student initiatives, strengthening communication among students, and engaging students in the cultural, educational, and social life of the university.
One of the key areas of work became the Russian Conversation Club (RCC). During the semester, twelve club meetings were held where foreign students developed conversational practice, overcame the language barrier, and got acquainted with the features of Russian speech and communication culture.
Sergey Mikhailov noted the relevance of language support for foreign students and the growing importance of Russian language proficiency in the educational process. Following the discussion, it was proposed to elevate the Russian Conversation Club to a new level by expanding its format and enhancing its role as one of the key tools for the academic and social adaptation of international students. The spring semester protocol lists the regular meetings of the RCC as one of the main areas of activity of the SIO.
In addition, during the semester, SIO conducted five environmental campaigns as part of the “SIOmka” project, including campaigns for collecting waste paper (February–June 2026). The environmental initiative became an example of engaging foreign students in socially useful activities and fostering a culture of responsible resource management.
SIO also took part in organizing and conducting a number of cultural, educational, and social events. Among them were Maslenitsa, a movie night for Defender of the Fatherland Day, an interuniversity quiz for Cosmonautics Day, the reporting festival of SPbGASU, a mini-tour to the village of Losevo, and others.
The meeting concluded with a ceremonial awarding of the active members of the International Student Organization and the graduates of the Council of International Students at SPbGASU. Special words of gratitude were addressed to the graduates:Myahri Niyazova(bachelor’s degree, Faculty of Architecture),Mehrubon Madaminov(master’s degree, faculty of civil engineering),Min Huang(master’s program, Faculty of Engineering Ecology and Urban Management).
Commemorative SIO newspapers were prepared for the graduates, reflecting their contribution to the development of the council and the international student community of SPbGASU.
The work of the International Students’ Council in the spring semester showed that the International Students’ Council plays a significant role in the educational and social life of the university and remains an important platform for the development of student initiatives, intercultural communication, and support for international students.
