Lanzhou, July 2 /Xinhua/ — “China has the strongest scientific, technological, and raw material bases, while Belarus has advanced mechanical engineering, agricultural technologies, IT sector, and rich experience in industrial cooperation,” said First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Nikolay Snopkov on Wednesday, describing regional cooperation as the foundation of joint development and calling to “sew together” the strengths of the two countries.
He made this statement while speaking at the opening ceremony of the China-Belarus Regional Forum, held on Wednesday in Lanzhou, the administrative center of Gansu Province /Northwest China/.
The years 2026-2027 have been declared the Years of Industrial Cooperation between China and Belarus. According to N. Snopkov, to date more than 160 resident enterprises have been registered in the China-Belarus Industrial Park “Great Stone,” which is the flagship project of bilateral cooperation, with projects in advanced sectors such as industry, biotechnology, and medicine. The total declared investment volume amounts to approximately 1.6 billion US dollars.
As part of the forum, 7 provincial-level administrative units of China, including Gansu Province, Shandong /East China/, and Sichuan /Southwest China/, signed 43 cooperation agreements with 6 regions of Belarus, such as Grodno and Vitebsk regions, covering trade, investment, science and technology, education, and other areas.
In particular, the forum paid special attention to cooperation in the field of new energy. “We will use high-quality products and full-cycle service to promote the ‘green’ modernization of public transport in Belarus by implementing Chinese solutions in the electrification of public transport in this country,” said Yang Jian, General Director of Lanzhou Guangtong New Energy Cars Co., expressing readiness for trade exchange and cooperation with Belarus in the field of passenger vehicles powered by new energy sources.
According to the chairman of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Yang Wanming, there are currently 54 pairs of twin cities between China and Belarus. “The network of twin cities is constantly being improved, and the cooperation mechanism is becoming increasingly mature, attracting strong regional energy to promote the development of bilateral relations,” he noted.
In the context of developing sister-city relations between Gansu Province and the Grodno Region, established in 2007, companies from the two regions signed cooperation agreements at the forum. The Belarusian side welcomes the increase of investments from Gansu Province in the Grodno Region in the fields of agriculture and agricultural product processing, expressing hope that the two regions will jointly promote the implementation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services in health improvement to meet the needs of local residents and tourists.
The Deputy Head of the Administration for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmaceuticals of Gansu Province, Wang Zhenhua, reported that this year the Grodno Region sent three medical workers to Gansu Province to undergo a 10-day training course in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). They systematically studied TCM methods such as pediatric massage, acupuncture, and moxibustion, marking the implementation of a new model of TCM cooperation between the two regions.
Forum participants noted that holding the event not only helped strengthen the traditional friendship between China and Belarus within the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative, but also gave new impetus to establishing closer interregional cooperation and promoting high-quality development of relations between the two countries.
Let us recall that the China-Belarus Regional Forum was held under the slogan “Uniting the Strengths of Regions for Joint Development and Prosperity.” Its organizers were jointly the CNODZ, the People’s Government of Gansu Province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, and the Grodno Regional Executive Committee. More than 300 people from both countries participated in the event.
