Jiuquan, July 2 /Xinhua/ — China on Thursday launched a new oceanographic satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.

The Long March-4B carrier rocket with the Haiyang-2E satellite on board launched at 7:46 AM Beijing time, placing the satellite into its planned orbit.

This launch was the 654th for the Long March series of carrier rockets.
