Tashkent, July 1 /Xinhua/ — In the first five months of the current year, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade volume exceeded 32.8 billion US dollars. This was reported on Wednesday by the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics.
According to statistical data, from January to May, Uzbek exports decreased by 15.5% year-on-year and amounted to 12.6 billion dollars. At the same time, imports showed growth of 20.8%, reaching 20.1 billion dollars. As a result, the foreign trade balance deficit increased to 7.5 billion dollars.
The main factor that influenced the decline in overall export figures was a sharp reduction in gold shipments — by 76.8 percent. At the same time, exports excluding gold increased by 29.4 percent and amounted to 6.5 billion dollars.
China retained its status as Uzbekistan’s largest trading partner with a share of 23.4 percent. Key positions in the country’s foreign trade structure were also occupied by Russia (17.6 percent) and Kazakhstan (6.9 percent).
Currently, Uzbekistan maintains trade and economic relations with 185 countries around the world. –0–
