UN, June 30 /Xinhua/ — China calls on all parties, especially Israel, to fully comply with the ceasefire agreement and achieve a genuine and lasting truce in the Gaza Strip, said Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, on Monday.
“History has repeatedly proven that security is indivisible. No country can ensure its own security based on the insecurity of others. Military occupation and pressure will never lead to lasting peace,” stated the Chinese diplomat at the UN Security Council briefing dedicated to Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank and the situation in the Gaza Strip.
According to him, Israel, as the occupying power, must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, lift restrictions on humanitarian access, and support and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid by humanitarian organizations, including UNRWA / the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
Fu Cong also noted that the tension on the West Bank of the Jordan River needs to be reduced, and the principle of “two states for two peoples” is the only possible basis for resolving the Palestinian issue.
The international community must ensure broader consensus and intensify efforts to implement the principle of “two states for two peoples,” reject any attempts to change the demographic composition or territorial status of Palestine, oppose any unilateral actions undermining the foundations of the principle, and support the prompt establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem, possessing full sovereignty, Fu Cong stated. –0–
