Islamabad, June 30 /Xinhua/ — At least 14 children died and several others were injured as a result of the collapse of the roof of an educational center in the city of Lahore in eastern Pakistan. This was reported to Xinhua correspondents by rescue service personnel.

Official spokesman for the Rescue 1122 emergency service, Farooq Ahmed, reported that the incident occurred in Kahna, a suburban district of Lahore in Punjab province in the east of the country. Dozens of children were in class when the roof suddenly collapsed, burying the students under the rubble.

According to F. Ahmed, 14 children died as a result of the incident, and about 10 more injured remain in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll may rise.

The official representative added that search and rescue operations continue to retrieve everyone who may be trapped under the rubble. –0–
