Moscow, June 25 /Xin Hua/ — Russia and China have developed a stable model of relations based not only on mutual attraction between the two countries in the economic, social, cultural, and scientific spheres, but also on a common understanding of the priorities shaping the world order. This opinion was expressed in an interview by correspondent Xin Hua by Fyodor Voytolovsky, director of the National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations named after E. M. Primakov of the Russian Academy of Sciences /IMEMO RAS/, at the International Forum “Primakov Readings” in Moscow.
“Russia and China have developed a model of relations which, in my view, is not only benevolent, connected with the mutual attraction of the two countries, economic, social, cultural, scientific, but also with a general understanding of priorities in the relationship of the emerging world order,” he said.
According to the expert’s assessment, both countries advocate for an inclusive architecture of global governance, uphold the principles of sovereignty and equality of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and respect for international law.
F. Voitolovsky highly appreciated China’s role in the settlement in the Middle East, noting that China consistently supports good relations with most countries in the region, consistently adhering to the principles of reasonable economic diplomacy. According to him, it is this approach — unlike the Western model of intervention — that creates conditions for genuine settlement. “Chinese initiatives here can be very useful. It seems to me that Russia and China can do a lot together as permanent members of the UN Security Council,” noted the director of IMEMO RAS.
Commenting on the concepts put forward by China regarding the community of a shared future for mankind, the “Belt and Road” initiative, as well as global initiatives / the initiative for global development, the initiative for global security, the initiative for global civilization, and the initiative for global governance, the expert emphasized a fundamental difference from the confrontational approach of Western countries.”All these initiatives are constructive in nature, open for others to support, and they are not confrontational and do not imply dividing the world into camps and groups of countries competing with each other, but rather propose a joint development model,” he stated.
According to F. Voytolovsky, Russian concepts do not contradict Chinese approaches and can serve as a basis for peaceful and mutually respectful cooperation. The expert also highly appreciated the prospects of dialogue between the brain centers of the two countries, calling it the most important foundation for interaction at the interstate level.
“If there is no trust between experts, then interaction at the highest state level will not be as trusting and open in nature, because experts can work through and discuss a wider range of issues,” added F. Voytolovsky. –0–
