Moscow, June 24 /Xinhua/ — Cooperation in the field of education serves as an important bridge connecting people’s hearts. This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by the Chinese ambassador to the Russian Federation, Zhang Hanhui, commenting on the leaders of the two countries’ decision to declare 2026-2027 as the Years of Education and its significance for the development of China-Russia relations. “Educational cooperation acts as an important bridge that connects the hearts of people and conveys friendship between nations. This is a noble cause of our era, and it brings benefits to both today’s and future generations,” said the Chinese diplomat, emphasizing that exchanges and joint work in the field of education have become an important component of bilateral relations.
Zhan Hanxue reminded that the Years of Education is the tenth thematic project of state significance between China and Russia. Its implementation is of key importance for the joint training of personnel, the development of innovation and managerial interaction, more effective development of both countries, passing on traditions of friendship from generation to generation, as well as strengthening humanitarian ties and practical cooperation across all spheres.
“Thanks to the personal active assistance of the heads of the two countries, practical cooperation in the field of education between China and Russia continues to deepen, produces important results and enriches the content of comprehensive bilateral relations of partnership and strategic interaction in a new era,” the envoy noted, adding that an important milestone in this process was the establishment in 2000 of the China-Russia Commission on Humanitarian Cooperation.According to him, this structure became a strategic instrument for deepening bilateral partnership and a vivid example of constructive dialogue between major civilizations.
Speaking about cooperation in the field of higher education, Zhang Hanxue assured that it is actively developing. He provided data according to which 16 associations of specialized universities have already been formed between China and Russia, uniting more than 800 universities from both countries, which, according to the assessment of the Chinese diplomat, has allowed the formation of the largest bilateral cooperation network in the world in the field of higher education and ensures interaction in areas such as joint personnel training, innovative cooperation in scientific research, and academic exchange.
In addition, more than 150 joint educational institutions and programs operate between Chinese and Russian universities, aimed at training qualified specialists. Zhang Hanwei named the MSU-PPI University / M.V. Lomonosov MSU and the Beijing Polytechnic Institute in the city of Shenzhen / Guangdong province, South China, as flagship projects of cooperation in the field of higher education.”Student exchanges are being activated, the total number of participants in bilateral academic mobility approaches 100 thousand people, which provides a solid personnel base for partnerships in various fields,” the ambassador noted.
He also talked about expanding cooperation in the field of professional education. The Tianjin Vocational College of Electronics and Informatics, together with the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics, created the “Lu Ban Workshop,” in which Chinese 5G technologies have been implemented. “Both countries actively participate in international competitions in professional skills, which effectively improves the practical abilities and professional level of young specialists,” Zhang Hanxue added.
A Chinese diplomat drew attention to the continuing growth of interest in language exchange between China and Russia. “In Russia, the Chinese language is already included in the Unified State Exam (USE) program for foreign languages, and, in turn, in China, the Russian language is included in the program of the national entrance examination for foreign languages for admission to universities (Gaokao),” he explained.
As assured by Zhang Hanwei, China is ready to jointly with Russia utilize the possibilities of the G20 for activating cooperation in such areas as deepening the partnership in training highly qualified international specialists, developing the China-Russia Institute of Fundamental Research based at Peking University and Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of general education and teacher training, as well as exchanging experience in the field of education management.”Active participation in global education governance will help modernize management systems and enhance managerial capacities, forming a more fair and rational global governance system,” the diplomat believes.
As noted by Zhang Hanxue, China and Russia have rich educational resources and attach great importance to education. “Such cooperation between the two countries has broad prospects, reflecting the high expectations of the peoples of both countries and having important significance for long-term development,” he is convinced. Moreover, strengthening friendship among youth through active exchanges of students and schoolchildren allows cultivating new generations who will continue the traditions of friendly relations between China and Russia.
A Chinese diplomat stated that the Embassy of the PRC in Russia is ready, together with representatives of Russian organizations, to make efforts to strengthen the foundation of educational partnership and the ongoing deepening of comprehensive cooperation in the fields of education, science, and technology, as well as in the area of personnel training.
“We are firmly convinced that under the strategic leadership of the heads of the two countries and with the active participation of educational departments and other organizations, the Year of Education is capable of bringing significant results. Its implementation will contribute to the development and revival of both countries, the promotion of China-Russia relations to a higher level, the improvement of the welfare of the populations of both countries, and thereby make a new contribution to the creation of a community with a shared destiny for mankind,” concluded Zhang Hanwei. –0–
