Shanghai, June 24 /Xinhua/ — Currently, more than 40 percent of China’s share of global connections to fifth-generation communication networks (5G), and, according to estimates, by 2030 the number of 5G network connections in China will exceed 1.7 billion. This is stated in the “China Mobile Economy Report for 2026,” published on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the World Mobile Congress /MWC Shanghai 2026/.
The specified report, published by the International Association of Mobile Network Operators and Equipment Manufacturers (GSMA), states that such a scale means that China not only is among the leaders in the field of 5G application but also sets the direction for the development of advanced mobile network capabilities.
As noted in the report, with the expansion of coverage and capacity, the industry focus shifts to connecting a greater number of users to support more productive, intelligent, and differentiated services. This transition is manifested in the commercialization of 5G-Advanced technologies in more than 330 cities in the continental part of China, which creates a more solid foundation for the development of mobile artificial intelligence, the popularization of immersive consumer services, the advancement of digital transformation in enterprises, and the strengthening of public infrastructure.
The document also states that in 2025, mobile technologies and services will account for approximately 7.2 percent of China’s GDP, equivalent to 1.5 trillion USD. It is expected that this figure could reach 2.1 trillion USD in the USA by 2030.
