Roman Pope in WPP
Pope Leo XIV visited the headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome. He stated that access to food is one of the fundamental human rights. The Pontiff called on the international community to reaffirm its commitment to combating hunger and malnutrition and to increase funding for humanitarian programs. During the visit, the Pope also laid a wreath at the WFP staff memorial, honoring the memory of 171 organization workers who died in the line of duty.
Fight against HIV/AIDS
Despite significant progress over the past decades, the world is still far from fulfilling the commitments to eradicate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. This was stated in the speech of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, delivered at the High-Level General Assembly meeting by his Deputy Amina Mohammed. The Secretary-General highlighted five priority areas of work. These include expanding access to prevention and treatment, supporting local communities, protecting human rights, ensuring financing, as well as strengthening multilateral cooperation.
