New Delhi, June 22 /Xinhua/ — CNPRB Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday held a meeting in New Delhi with the Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Kadir Nizamipour.

At the meeting, Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee Commission on Foreign Affairs, stated that China welcomes the start of the next consultations between Iran and the United States based on the memorandum of understanding signed between them with the assistance of Pakistan and Qatar, as well as achieving a consensus on the mechanism for conducting the next stage of negotiations.

The Chinese diplomat stated that the key provisions of the 14-point memorandum of understanding were achieved with great difficulty, and emphasized that supporting and implementing this document will contribute to solidifying the hard-won ceasefire regime, opening new prospects in Iranian-American relations, and restoring peace in the Middle East region.

Van I noted that China, being an all-encompassing strategic partner of Iran, unwaveringly adheres to a just position, supports all efforts conducive to peace, protects Iran’s state sovereignty, security, and national dignity, as well as strengthening its relations with the Persian Gulf states and other countries in the region.

According to Van I, China intends to continue providing assistance by its own means and to play a constructive role in the prompt restoration of regional peace and stability.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that China always views and develops China-Iran relations from a strategic and long-term perspective and intends, together with Iran, to strengthen contacts at a high level, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, promote sustainable and long-term development of intergovernmental ties.

K. Nizamipur, on his part, informed about the latest changes in the situation in the Middle East and about the Iranian-American negotiations. He expressed hope for the continued important role of China in facilitating the proper implementation of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the USA, reached within the framework of the first stage of the peace agreements.

K. Nizamipur concluded that Iran always pays increased attention to its relations with China and highly values the positive role that the PRC plays in international and regional affairs, adding that the deepening of bilateral relations into a comprehensive strategic partnership is a common consensus among all Iranian public circles.

Iran firmly adheres to the principle of one China and intends to continue maintaining close contacts with the PRC at all levels, strengthening mutual support, deeply unlocking the potential of cooperation, increasing interaction within the framework of multilateral mechanisms such as BRICS, for jointly overcoming common challenges, assured K. Nizamipur.
