Beijing, June 22 /Xin Hua/ — China’s consumer market remained stable during the Dragon Boat Festival /Dragon Boat Holiday/, ensuring sufficient supply and maintaining stable prices for essential goods, the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC reported on Sunday.
According to statistics, during the three-day period of the Dragon Boat Festival, the flow of people on 78 main pedestrian streets / business districts / cities tracked by the ministry increased by 4 percent on an annual basis, while turnover increased by 3.5 percent.
From January 1 to June 20, 136 million people used consumer goods exchange programs through trade-in schemes. Sales volume within this program exceeded 1 trillion yuan (approximately 146.78 billion USD), according to government data.
In particular, 3.43 million used cars were sold in the country, with sales amounting to 555.24 billion yuan. At the same time, 132.895 million units of digital and “smart” products were sold, with sales amounting to 451.63 billion yuan.
During the holiday period, there was a sufficient supply of essential goods on the market and stable prices for them. According to the ministry, 200 large wholesale markets for agricultural and food products across the country had sufficient stocks.
Prices for grains, oils, meat, and fruits have mostly not changed compared to the pre-holiday level, while prices for eggs and vegetables have decreased by 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively.
The Duanwu Festival, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, this year fell on a Saturday, and the holidays lasted from June 19 to 21.
