Jerusalem, June 20 /Sina/ — The United States proposed an experimental plan for the partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from the “security zone” that Israel maintains in southern Lebanon. This was reported on Friday by the Israeli news channel Kan TV.

According to the report, the plan involves the disarmament of “Hezbollah” by facilitating the advancement of the Lebanese army into areas currently controlled by Israel.

Next week in Washington, another round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon is expected, during which, according to sources, specific zones for the implementation of an experimental plan will be determined, reports Kan TV.

It is noted that the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasized earlier on Friday that the Israeli presence in the “security zone” will continue “as long as necessary,” and an assessment of the potential areas for troop withdrawal is already being conducted as part of the U.S.-supported plan.

Kan TV also quoted a high-ranking Israeli military official who said that the key question is whether this step will lead to a real change in Israeli policy towards Lebanon, since Israel seeks to destroy the Hezbollah group supported by Iran. –0–
