Beijing, June 19 /Xinhua/ — On Friday — the first day of the Duanwu Festival or Dragon Boat Festival — the volume of passenger traffic on China’s railways is expected to reach 19.73 million person-trips. This was reported by the state-owned corporation “China Railway” /CR/.
To meet the increased demand for trips, it is expected that 1,028 additional passenger trains will be deployed on Friday, the corporation reported.
In the China Railway Corporation, it was stated that the popular destinations during the holiday period this year are the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and others, adding that railway authorities across the country are conducting cultural events to create a festive atmosphere and improve the quality of passenger service.
As of 08:00 on Friday, more than 51.59 million railway tickets had been sold on the 12306 ticket booking platform for the upcoming holiday period.
The Dragon Boat Festival this year fell on a Friday. In some places, the holiday is extended from Friday to Sunday.
