Valery Falkov and Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko took part in the closing ceremony of the II All-Russian Student Family Festival, one of the organizers of which is GUU.
Rector of HSE Vladimir Stroev told guests about the Festival and held a special exhibition dedicated to student families of Russia.
Speaking at the plenary session, the head of the Ministry of Education and Science noted that one of the development goals of Russia, designated by President Vladimir Putin, is the increase of the population, strengthening of health, and improvement of people’s well-being, support for the family.
“Universities as special social institutions, intellectual corporations play a huge role in the implementation of demographic and family policy through support of student families, mothers and fathers with children. In order to systematize successful developments of universities, the Ministry of Education and Science has developed a standard for supporting student families. Today, this standard has already been implemented in most universities of various departmental affiliations across the country,” said Valery Falkov.
Note that today there are 60 thousand student families in Russian universities, more than half of which are families with children. At the same time, the figures from last year were noticeably lower – 27 thousand student families, including 13 thousand with children.
As part of the Action Strategy for the Implementation of Family Policy, 527 main universities and 404 branches have introduced a “single window” service into their structure to inform mothers and fathers with children about existing support measures.
A navigator for measures to support student families has started working on the public services portal. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 55 thousand requests have been recorded.
As part of the national project “Family”, 343 rooms for mothers and children and groups for short-term stay of children have been created.
Separately, the minister thanked the Federation Council and the State Duma for enshrining the concept of “student family” at the legislative level.
At the conclusion of the plenary session, the winners of the II All-Russian competition “Student Families of Russia” were awarded.
The Minister of Education and Science presented an award to the winners in the nomination “Audience Choice Award.” Valentina Matvienko and the rector of MSU named after M.V. Lomonosov, Viktor Sadovnichiy, congratulated the families laureate in the nomination “Best Student Family.” Senator of the Russian Federation, nine-time world champion, Hero of Russia Alexander Karelin congratulated the winners in the nomination “Sports Family.”
