Islamabad, June 18 /Xin Hua/ — Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding between the USA and Iran as a mediator in the peaceful settlement. This was reported by his office.
Earlier on Thursday, Sh. Sharif announced that the document in electronic form was signed by the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian and his American colleague Donald Trump. The memorandum came into force immediately, which became a significant diplomatic event for both sides.
In his post on the social network X, the Pakistani prime minister stated that the signing of the agreement by both countries at the highest governmental level demonstrates their commitment to the diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
“The memorandum of understanding comes into effect immediately, and as the first step Iran will immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States will immediately lift the naval blockade,” he added.
The signing of the memorandum as an intermediary reflects Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue and contacts between the two countries, as well as regional stability. –0–
