Mexico, June 18 /Xin Hua/ — Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday expressed her disagreement with the blockade of Cuba, which has been ongoing for decades on the part of the USA.
At the daily press conference, the President of Mexico stated that during telephone talks with his American counterpart Donald Trump, she advocated for the easing of sanctions against Cuba.
“Cuba has made efforts to open its economy, so it would be reasonable to take this into account,” said K. Sheinbaum.
Mexico has historically opposed such sanctions, the position of Mexico is reinforced by its long-standing foreign policy and respect for national sovereignty, the president noted.
“We will always support Cuba’s right to self-determination and believe that the Cuban people should not be subjected to punishment,” said K. Sheinbaum, emphasizing Mexico’s deep solidarity with the Caribbean country. –0–
