At the foot of the southern station of Amdo county in Sitsan, located at an altitude of more than 4000 meters above sea level, employees of the railway maintenance company under the 12th Bureau of China Railway Corporation have begun the modernization and laying of a seamless track on the Golmud-Lhasa Qinghai-Tibet Railway section. The specified work is being carried out during the nighttime technological “window.”
This modernization project involves 41 railway tracks at 17 stations, including Nagchu and Amdo. The work is carried out in areas with an average altitude of more than 4500 meters above sea level and includes replacing existing conventional rail tracks with continuous welded rails. Facing challenges such as oxygen deficiency at high altitude above sea level and significant daily temperature fluctuations, the project team applies the technology of “preparing rails on a side site (preliminary stage) + direct replacement of rails on site (fieldwork stage),” which allows for orderly execution of all stages of the work.
