Beijing, June 17 /Xin Hua/ — Chinese scientists have successfully completed comprehensive studies on Huanan Island in the South China Sea, confirmed an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Lin Zhi’an, on Wednesday.
In the third decade of May, a group of researchers from the Institute of Oceanology of the South China Sea of the Chinese Academy of Sciences began comprehensive studies of the island of Huanayandao, which allowed for a deeper understanding of the local ecosystem, the Chinese diplomat informed at the briefing.
A representative of the foreign policy department made these statements, commenting at the request of the media reports that under pressure from the USA and the Philippines, China dismantled the so-called “construction” installed on the island of Huangyan Dao.
Huanjandao is an integral part of the territory of China. China possesses indisputable sovereignty over Huanjandao Island and the waters adjacent to it, Lin Zhan continued.
China, as Lin Qian noted, possesses the legal rights of a sovereign state to carry out any activities, including scientific research, on the island of Huangyan Dao. No other country has the right to interfere in this, he added.
China calls on the relevant countries to immediately cease disinformation and groundless accusations against China, as well as to refrain from any provocative actions at sea, emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.
