Tbilisi, June 16 /Sina/ — Georgia is an integral part of the Middle Corridor and is ready to deepen partnerships with Serbia to fully utilize the transit and trade potential of this route between Europe and Asia. This was stated on Tuesday by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze at a joint briefing with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.
According to I. Kobayidze, during the negotiations, the parties discussed issues of trade-economic and sectoral cooperation, noting a significant potential for further expansion of interaction.
“After settling the remaining aspects, both parties will be ready to sign the free trade agreement, which will become an important stimulus for the economic development of both countries and further strengthening of bilateral ties,” said I. Kobaydze. According to him, the document will create new opportunities for business, increase the volume of mutual trade, activate investment flows, and elevate economic cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
A. Vučić in turn reported that in the first quarter of the current year, bilateral trade turnover increased by 36.4 percent. He noted a positive dynamic in the sphere of services and tourism, associated with the opening of direct air communication between the two countries, and expressed hope for further growth in mutual tourist flows.
According to the Serbian president, the free trade agreement will significantly increase the import of Georgian products and services to the Serbian market, which will benefit both producers and consumers of both countries.
The President of Serbia also welcomed the upcoming opening of the Serbian embassy in Georgia and expressed hope for the soon opening of the Georgian diplomatic mission in Serbia, emphasizing that this will contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral relations and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
