Minsk, June 13 /Xin Hua/ — A bright festival “Tea for the harmony of the world” took place in Belarus on Saturday. The event was held at Freedom Square in Minsk and gathered representatives of Belarus and China on its platform, so that they could, in a friendly atmosphere filled with the aroma of tea, become acquainted with Chinese culture, art, and traditions.

During the festival, the audience was delighted by performances from the Henan opera and dance troupe, the Henan acrobatic group, the Shaolin martial arts center, the State Academic Dance Ensemble of Belarus, and the choreographic ensemble “Khoroshki.” The groups demonstrated a bright program to the audience, uniting the cultures of two countries.

Guests and residents of Minsk could get acquainted with the tea “Sinyan Maojian”, folk toys — tigers “Wanfusuyu” from the county of Xunshan, New Year’s Lubok paintings from Chzhuanyan, and pumpkin paintings from Nanyang. Also, event visitors took part in master classes on calligraphy, paper cutting, painting, and knot weaving.

There was a gastronomic fair for everyone willing, where you could try such dishes of Chinese cuisine as meat rolls /zhoucizhamo/, small steamed buns /xiaolongbao/, handmade dumplings, shashlik with an original flavor, candied fruits on a stick /tanghulu/ and milk tea.

The Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the PRC to Belarus, Zhang Wenchuan, in his speech at the event, especially noted that in recent years, under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, Chinese-Belarusian relations continue to develop at a high level. He also drew attention to the fact that China is the homeland of tea, which is organically woven into everyday life, etiquette, and the spiritual world of the Chinese. The Chinese tea ceremony is a living tradition, unhurried and possessing inner strength.

“Today we gathered at Freedom Square. We are drinking tea and at the same time touching upon a special world perception: pacification, inclusiveness, and mutual enrichment. May this subtle aroma of tea forever be imprinted in your memory and add another new chapter to the book of friendship between China and Belarus,” emphasized Zhang Wenchuan.

First Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Alexander Komendant, in turn, noted that tea is not only an ancient drink but also an integral part of Chinese culture, a symbol of peace and kindness. “Each of us during the event will touch upon Chinese tradition, enjoy its elements, try delicious and aromatic Chinese tea, gain inner balance, and become closer to each other,” he said.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC, the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, and the Minsk City Executive Committee, and was facilitated by the Chinese Cultural Center in Minsk, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Henan Province, and the Culture Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee. –0–
