Beijing, June 12 /Xin Hua/ — The total volume of investments in China’s railway infrastructure funds increased by 2.6 percent in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, as the country continued to develop railway construction to support domestic demand and regional development, according to the state corporation “China Railways” /CR/.
The total volume of investments in fixed assets in this sector reached 248.5 billion yuan (approximately 36.5 billion USD) for this period, according to NDRC data.
In 2025, in China, the total volume of investments in main railway assets amounted to 901.5 billion yuan, 3109 km of new railway lines were put into operation, including 2862 km of high-speed railway lines.
An official company representative stated that significant progress has been made this year in several key railway projects, planning and construction are progressing steadily, while carefully observing safety requirements, quality of execution, and work schedules.
China has built the world’s largest high-speed railway network. By the end of 2025, the country’s total operational length of railways will reach 165 thousand km, including 50 thousand km of high-speed railway lines.
It is expected that the total operational length of national railways will reach 180 thousand km by the end of 2030, including approximately 60 thousand km of high-speed railway lines, the CCTD reported. -0-
