Jerusalem, June 9 /Sin Hua/ — The Israeli strikes on Iran, carried out on Monday, were “preparation for a much more serious and powerful attack.” This was stated on Tuesday by the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Army /IDF/ Eyal Zamir.

“We are ready to deliver new serious and large-scale strikes on Iran,” stated E. Zamir during exercises in northern Israel, without going into details.

According to Lebanese sources, on June 7 Israel carried out airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, resulting in the deaths of at least two people and about 20 others wounded.

These shellings provoked an exchange of strikes between Iran and Israel, which continued from the evening of June 7 to June 8, becoming the most serious escalation since the declaration of a ceasefire between Iran, the USA, and Israel in April.

Late on Monday, Iran and Israel signaled a cessation of mutual attacks. Nevertheless, Israel warned that it would strike Beirut in response to any attack on the northern part of the Jewish state and would continue attacks against the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, while Iran warned that any new Israeli attack on Iran or Lebanon would provoke a much more “harsh and crushing” response from Tehran.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian military personnel reported that two air defense servicemen were killed on Monday during Israeli strikes while defending the country’s airspace. –0–
