Beijing, June 5 /Xin Hua/ — China is ready to strengthen strategic communication and close cooperation with Laos and to elevate the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future to a new level, Premier of the State Council of the PRC Li Qian stated on Friday in Beijing.
Li Qian made this statement during a meeting with the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, who is on a state visit to China.
Stating that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, Li Qian noted that over many years China and Laos have consistently supported each other and provided mutual assistance. According to him, especially in recent years, under the strategic leadership of the top leaders of both parties and countries, China-Laos relations have entered the best period in their history.
Li Qian noted that China intends to strengthen the integration of development strategies with Laos and fully reveal the positive effect of its zero tariff policy. At the same time, he clarified that China will continue to increase the volume of bilateral trade, promote cooperation on the China-Laos railway project, accelerate the construction of the China-Laos economic corridor, and expand cooperation in the fields of energy carriers and mineral resources, artificial intelligence, digital economy, and other areas to achieve new practical results.
China intends to import more high-quality products from Laos and encourage enterprises with Chinese capital to invest in Laos, and also hopes that the Laotian side will provide a more favorable business environment for Chinese companies, Li Qian noted.
Noting that the current year has been declared the Year of China-Laos Friendship, Li Qian expressed the readiness of the PRC to jointly work with Laos on holding a number of festive events, deepening cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, education, and healthcare, and developing the traditional friendship between the two countries.
The head of the Chinese government also called for close cooperation between the two countries, in order to encourage all parties to jointly defend a rules-based multilateral trading system and to protect free trade and economic globalization.
Thongloun Sisoulith, for his part, expressed gratitude to China for the valuable support and assistance provided over a long period of time, and added that Laos will firmly adhere to the One-China principle and resolutely support the PRC on issues concerning its core interests, such as Taiwan, Xinjian, and Hong Kong.
The Laotian leader said that his country is ready to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, digitalization, mineral extraction, energy, and other fields, promote exchanges and interaction in culture and tourism, enhance coordination within mechanisms such as Cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong Basin, and strive to achieve even greater success in building a community of shared destiny between Laos and China.
