Beijing, June 5 /Xin Hua/ — Business circles in China express strong dissatisfaction and resolute protest regarding the US intention to impose additional tariffs of 10 percent – 12.5 percent against dozens of economies, including China, announced the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
The USA accuses these economies of using forced labor in the production of goods.
The investigation initiated by the American side and the proposed tariff measure are essentially aimed at extending U.S. domestic standards and unilateral rules to other economies, which has no basis in international law and contradicts the rules of the multilateral trading system, the committee stated.
The conclusion from the American side that the economic policy being pursued undermines efforts to eliminate forced labor or distorts market competition is not supported by sufficient evidence, CCPIT stated, adding that the proposed measure uses tariffs as a tool of political pressure and clearly shows signs of unilateralism and protectionism.
Moreover, the differentiated tariffs that the USA intends to introduce constitute a clear violation of the principles of non-discrimination and fair competition, the committee emphasized.
There it was stated that China’s business circles strongly urge the United States to respect the facts, stop the excessive use and abuse of trade restriction measures, return to a multiparty trading system based on rules, properly resolve trade and economic disputes through dialogue and consultations, and jointly protect the stability of global production and marketing chains. -0-
