“In China, one mobile phone is enough to go out on the street.” On the phone of Briton Dominic, there are all sorts of applications for everyday life: “At first, I didn’t even think I would settle in Beijing, but now I love this ancient and at the same time modern city.”
Dominic is originally from a small town in the south of the United Kingdom. In 2017, one of his friends asked him if he wanted to go to Beijing to work as an English teacher. With a mixed feeling of excitement and curiosity, Dominic went to this unfamiliar country. After living here for a year, he decided to stay in China: “The people here are very warm and attentive, and there are also many opportunities for work.”
Dominic has moved to Beijing several times: “I like wandering around the hutongs for hours, hiking in the mountains outside the city, and also strolling in the park near my home,” Dominic says with affection. “Here, you can live however you want, enjoying the diversity of life.”
For convenience, there is political support. Taking into account the diverse needs of foreign citizens in Beijing, an extensive network of services for foreigners has been created, ensuring high-quality service. “Thanks to the implementation of measures to simplify inbound tourism procedures, such as visa processing, customs procedures, payment, accommodation, and transportation, more and more foreign tourists are embarking on an exciting journey through China, and Beijing has become one of the most popular inbound tourism destinations,” said Wan Zhui, head of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. In 2025, Beijing received 5.48 million foreign tourists, which is 39% more than in the previous year.
“It is very convenient to travel to China now. My mother has already been to Beijing five times, and many of my British friends also plan to visit China as tourists,” Dominion says. “A favorable policy attracts more and more people who want to see the real face of China, and more and more foreigners are falling in love with this country.”
Dominic is married to a Chinese woman Li Dun, they have a child, and everything he sees and hears in Beijing, he films and publishes on social networks both in China and abroad: “I want to show the whole world how wonderful life is in Beijing.”
