Beijing, June 5 /Xin Hua/ — Artificial intelligence /AI/ is not the prerogative of major states and should not become a reason for rivalry or a stage for confrontation. This was stated on Friday by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Mao Ning.
A Chinese diplomat made a corresponding statement at a regular press conference for journalists, responding to a question related to the global race in the field of AI. Mao Ning indicated that AI fundamentally changes lifestyles and production methods and represents a new task that humanity must solve through joint efforts.
“China consistently adheres to a people-oriented approach in the UN, advocating openness and inclusiveness, so that the UN serves as a force for good for all,” emphasized the official representative.
As Mao Ning recalled, China has put forward the Global Initiative on Artificial Intelligence Governance, held the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) for eight consecutive years, and announced the creation of a World Organization for Artificial Intelligence Cooperation. The main goal of these efforts is to achieve consensus through dialogue, deepen interaction, and build an open, equal, just, and non-discriminatory environment for AI development, she added.
In July of this year, the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2026 and the High-Level Conference on Global Artificial Intelligence Governance will be held in Shanghai.
“We expect to use the upcoming conference as a favorable opportunity for in-depth exchange of views and dialogue with all parties, to strengthen global AI governance and promote the development of AI in the interest of the well-being of all humanity,” concluded the representative of the Chinese foreign policy agency.
