At the platform of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the capital’s Department of Investment and Industrial PolicyAnatoly Garbuzovand the rector of Sechenov University Petr Glybochko signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of development of the medical and pharmaceutical industry of the capital.
“Today in Moscow, more than 300 enterprises of the pharmaceutical and medical industries are operating; the city has established an uninterrupted production of vital medicines, modern equipment, and diagnostic tools. With the support of the capital, they are increasing capacities and modernizing their facilities, new advanced productions are opening, and the product range is expanding. The driving force behind this direction has becomespecial economic zone“Technopolis Moscow,” providing a high-tech full-cycle infrastructure — from development to serial production. I’m confident that cooperation with Sechenov University will strengthen our leadership positions and accelerate the emergence of new solutions that work for the benefit of the country’s residents,” noted Anatoly Garbuzov.
The document provides for the conduct of comprehensive analytical studies, evaluation of strategic investment projects and implemented support mechanisms, as well as assistance in the integration of academic developments into production chains.
Special attention is paid to areas aimed at improving competencies in the field of original product creation, integration into global development vectors, and the introduction of artificial intelligence into development processes, as well as creating conditions for bringing innovative products to the market.
“Sechenov University today is an industry integrator of technological solutions for medicine. We have created at the university an infrastructure for the full cycle of developing new drugs and medical devices — from the idea to clinical trials and preparation for industrial production. Together with the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow, we are building a systematic work to accelerate the path of new drugs and technologies to patients,” emphasized the rector of Sechenov University, Petr Glybochko.
Moscow ranks first in the country in revenue in the medical industry and second in pharmaceutical manufacturing, and it is also one of the leading centers for the development of these sectors.
An effective package of measures is in place to support enterprises in the capital, including tax preferences, financial instruments, sales guarantees, as well as a developed industrial infrastructure. In addition, one of the largest pharmaceutical clusters in the country has been created at the SEZ “Technopolis Moscow.” Companies that have already launched production manufacture drugs for the treatment of oncological, autoimmune, cardiological, and other socially significant diseases.
