The government will write off part of the debt on budget loans for six more regions, totaling over 37.5 billion rubles

The government continues to work on easing the debt burden of the regions. More than 37.5 billion rubles will be written off as part of the debt on budget loans of six more entities, as two-thirds of that debt.

According to the directive signed by the Chairman of the Government Mikhail Mishustin, the debt will be written off for Yakutia, Tatarstan, Khabarovsk Krai, Vladimir, Kurgan, and Omsk regions. This will free up significant resources in the regional budget, support the further improvement of the economy and quality of life of citizens, Mikhail Mishustin clarified onat the Government meeting on June 3.

The volume of write-offs corresponds to the size of investments of these entities in projects for the modernization of housing and communal services (including the replacement of elevator equipment in apartment buildings), resettlement of citizens from emergency housing, updating public transport, recapitalization of funds for industrial development, as well as the implementation of national projects, new investment and infrastructure projects for the development of key settlements, and measures of long-term plans for socio-economic development of cities and municipal formations of regions included in the Far Eastern Federal District.and the Arctic zone of Russia.

Work on easing the debt burden of the regions is being carried out under the instructions of the President, who is the head of state and gave these instructions following the results of his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2024.

In 2025, 58 regions, whose burden decreased by approximately 230 billion rubles, were able to take advantage of the possibility of writing off debt on budget loans. In 2026, debt amounting to a total of 175 billion rubles was already written off for 54 regions.
