Beijing, June 2 /Xin Hua/ — Philippine Defense Minister Gilberto Teodoro has repeatedly made ridiculous statements addressed to China, causing serious damage to the relations and mutual trust between the two countries, acting to the detriment of the interests of the Philippines and its people. This was stated on Tuesday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mao Ning.
Mao Ning made a corresponding statement at a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on the speech of the Philippine Defense Minister at the 2026 “Shangri-La Dialogue” conference, in which he retracted the Chinese supply of fertilizer and fuel to the Philippines as “show concern and deception,” and also stated an alleged serious threat from China.
“The Philippine Defense Minister has repeatedly made absurd statements directed at China,” noted the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “His recent remarks once again prove that this person completely disregards the welfare of the Filipino people and feels no gratitude whatsoever.”
“He cares only about personal gain, not stopping even before turning the people’s livelihood problems into a political show. This seriously undermines China-Philippines relations and mutual trust between the parties, completely contradicting the interests of the Philippines and its population,” emphasized Mao Ning.
“The Philippine side should seriously consider: if such a person is allowed to act with impunity, how can China continue to provide the Philippines with material resources and assistance in advance? Who will ultimately pay the price? Whose interests will be harmed?” — the Chinese diplomat continued.
She noted that Filipino leaders have repeatedly expressed their readiness to properly resolve disagreements and ease bilateral tensions.
China hopes that the Philippines will reinforce words with actions and strictly control the words and deeds of its officials, not allowing individual miserable clowns to repeatedly undermine the efforts of both sides to stabilize China-Philippines relations, Mao Ning concluded.
