Beijing, June 2 /Xinhua/ — The State Council of the PRC has published a plan to accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas in the period of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).

The plan is aimed at accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas to advance Chinese modernization, as well as defining key tasks and political measures for the specified period.

According to the plan, by 2030 the country’s food security will steadily increase; the quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of agriculture will be additionally improved; and achievements in the fight against poverty will be strengthened and expanded.

The plan provides for a significant increase in the level of scientific and technological independence and self-sufficiency in the field of agriculture, achieving major breakthroughs in the transformation of agriculture into a modern large-scale industry, as well as continuing the relatively rapid growth in the number of farms by 2030.

The plan also proposes to intensify efforts to build harmonious and beautiful villages that are well-equipped for living and working, and highlights the necessity of achieving new breakthroughs in the integrated development of urban and rural areas, as well as significant results in the high-quality development of agriculture and rural areas.
