Jerusalem, June 1 /Xinhua/ — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz jointly announced on Monday that they had ordered strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
As they noted, the order was given after “repeated violations” of the ceasefire regime in Lebanon by the “Hezbollah” movement, including missile and drone strikes on cities in northern Israel.
Local news channel Channel 12 reported that this step was taken after the USA gave Israel the green light to expand military activity in Lebanon.
Earlier on Monday, an Israeli special forces soldier was killed in southern Lebanon as a result of a strike by a drone launched by the Hezbollah movement. Three more Israeli soldiers were injured in the village of Yammoor, one of them seriously.
The Israel Defense Forces /IDF/ reported that throughout the entire Monday morning, “Hezbollah” launched rockets and drones toward the northern part of Israel; some of which were intercepted, while others fell in open areas, with no casualties.
The military also stated that they destroyed the installation from which “Hezbollah” launched rockets towards the city of Tveria in the northeast of Israel on Sunday night. There are no reports of casualties. –0–
