Tehran, June 1 /Xinhua/ — Official Tehran on Sunday denied the reports from the SMH that the President of Iran Masud Pezeshkian had resigned.

“President Pezeshkian will not retreat from serving the people, just as the Iranian nation will not retreat from the path of solidarity and resistance,” wrote Seyed Medhi Tabatabai, deputy head of the president’s office for communications, on the social network X.

Earlier on the same day, the London-based publication Iran International reported that M. Pezeshkian submitted a resignation statement to the office of the supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

The article, citing an unnamed official, states that in his statement the president criticized the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for the fact that he effectively took control of most of the government and removed M. Pezeshkian and other high-ranking officials from key decision-making processes.

As stated in the article, M. Pezeshkian said that he cannot govern the government or fulfill his legal duties, so he is resigning.
