This year, 41 teams from the Novosibirsk region and 72 guest teams from other regions of Russia participated in the «NSK CTF-2026» competition. The competition took place online on a special platform. For 8 hours, participants solved tasks in various areas of information security, captured flags, and earned points in the tournament table.

The competition is held in a Task-based (Jeopardy) format, where participants need to capture flags to earn points for the team. A flag is a set of symbols or an arbitrary phrase that can be obtained for correctly completed tasks in various categories: Web, OSINT, Reverse Engineering, Cryptography, Forensics, Pentest, and others.

CTF competitions are historically always independent preparation, but nevertheless a large part of the students from the teams attended elective courses “Practical Information Security” and “Security of Devices and Networks”, which we conduct with Vladimir Sitnov, co-author of the courses, — spoke about the preparation for the competitionRoman Lebedev, senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Science of NGU.

Under the leadership of Roman Lebedev, the teams of the Faculty of Information Technologies of NGU “0x5T4RF1R3” and “Miracle Island 67” took 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

I hope that the competitions will adapt and that students will continue to enjoy this unusual genre, compared to traditional Olympic programming., — shared his impressions with Roman.
