Kyiv, May 29 /Xin Hua/ — On Thursday, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the agreement on receiving a loan from the EU for 90 billion euros in 2026-2027. The corresponding bill was supported by 298 deputies with the necessary minimum of 226 votes, the “Interfax-Ukraine” agency reported.

Speaking at a parliamentary session, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergey Marchenko stated that 60 billion euros of the specified funds will be directed to strengthening the country’s defense-industrial potential, and the remaining 30 billion euros will be used to cover the state budget deficit.

The minister also reminded that Ukraine will have to return these loan funds to the European Union only if Russia pays her reparations.

In December 2025, EU leaders reached an agreement to provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros in 2026-2027. On April 3 of this year, the EU finally approved the decision on financial assistance to Kyiv. –0–
