Shenyang, May 29 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, the 7-millionth car rolled off the assembly line of the production base of the joint auto company BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., located in the city of Shenyang in northeastern China, which, according to industry experts, is a significant achievement reflecting BMW Group’s long-standing commitment to the Chinese market.

“Over more than 30 years, we have deeply rooted ourselves in the soil of the Chinese market. The production of the 7-millionth BMW car from our plant in Shenyang is an important milestone in the history of the successful development of the company, as it demonstrates the strength of our localization system of production,” noted Raymond Wittmann, member of the BMW AG Board and head of manufacturing operations.

“With the start of the localized production of the Neue Klasse /New Class/ model by the end of this year, we will open the next chapter and begin a new era for BMW in China,” he added.

According to data from the company BMW Brilliance, starting with the production of the first locally manufactured BMW vehicle in 2003 and culminating in the release of the 7-millionth vehicle, BMW has created in China a comprehensive system encompassing full vehicle and powertrain production, localized research and development, as well as a localized supply chain, making China one of BMW’s most important manufacturing and innovation bases worldwide.

At the same time, the production base in Shenyang, the administrative center of China’s Liaoning province, is the largest in the world for BMW Group.

“In addition to excellent products, we have also created a prospectively oriented production system in Shenyang and assembled an excellent team of professionals whose competencies and experience ensure our innovations and success in China,” said Birgit Bem, President and CEO of BMW Brilliance.

She is confident that relying on the specified solid foundation, the company will accelerate steps towards entering a new era of its development in China through innovation, deeper localization, and intellectualization of production. -0-
