A personal exhibition of the European and USSR champion in sport shooting, Professor of the UNESCO Chair at SPbPU Vladislav Raskovalov, opened at the Polytechnic Museum.
The exhibition introduces visitors to the main milestones of Vladislav Raskovalov’s life path: from sports triumphs and military service to teaching and social activities. Each presented item — be it a champion’s medal, a scientific monograph, an honorary diploma, or a ceremonial dagger — tells about different facets of his personality.
Vladislav Lvovich — a sport shooter, two-time European champion in 1971, European champion in 1972, two-time USSR champion in 1970, Master of Sport of the USSR of international class, record holder of the USSR, Europe, and the world in sport shooting. After ending his athletic career, he became a military official, teacher, candidate of technical sciences, professor, retired colonel. Professor of the UNESCO department “Quality Management of Education in the Interest of Sustainable Development” at Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University.
The opening ceremony was started by the Rector of the Polytechnic, Andrey Rudskoy: Our exhibition is dedicated to an outstanding personality. The essence of a person, their extraordinariness, can manifest itself at different levels. Vladislav Lvovich went through a rigorous military service school, achieved heights in sports, and in mature age retrained as a manager, a teacher who is capable of teaching already established people. He did this during a difficult period when we did not know where to go, how to build a new economy. And within the framework of the presidential program, he prepared an entire team of extraordinary specialists, an economic elite. Therefore, we considered it important that our museum should have an exhibition that sets the right direction for youth, students, and schoolchildren, so that they understand what to strive for. And more mature visitors, guests of the museum, will simply be proud that such a person works with us — wise, calm, and modest.
The culprit of the celebration spoke in response: I am very happy that after retirement I managed to enter this wonderful realm of science. The atmosphere of a Polytechnic university makes a person think completely differently, see perspectives, and share this with their loved ones, friends. I always say that I have two families: my biological one — here today is my beloved son, who gave me five grandchildren, and the second family — this is my work, my environment. And I really feel like a son of this family. So, I must behave in a way that I am not ashamed of myself. Thank you very much for such an attitude. This, essentially, is the attitude towards all our programs and towards everything we do. For me, this is a great honor.
Guests of the exhibition, among whom were also students of Vladislav Lvovich, graduates of the presidential program, presented photographs from the personal archive, awards, commemorative gifts, diplomas, and medals of the winner of sports competitions, scientific works.
Vladislav Raskovalov said that he did gymnastics and skiing at school. Once, in the eighth grade, he came to cheer on his classmates at a shooting competition, and he was asked to replace an absent boy. And he suddenly took first place! The talented student was immediately selected for the school team.
In 1965, Vladislav graduated from the Chelyabinsk Military Automobile School. He trained at the Leningrad SKA. In 1970, he won the USSR championship in small-caliber rifle shooting at a distance of 50 m lying down in both personal and team events, and in pneumatic rifle shooting at a distance of 10 m standing. In 1971, he won the European Championship in Meziboží in the individual (pneumatic rifle, 10 m, 40 shots) and team events. A year later, in Belgrade, he became the European champion in the team event. At the same time, he graduated from the automobile faculty of the Leningrad Military Academy of Logistics and Transport, and also completed adjuncture there.Until 1993, he served in the Armed Forces of the USSR and the Russian Federation. He was discharged into the reserve with the rank of colonel. From 1993 to 1997, he worked at the training center for professional retraining “Perspektiva” for retraining officers and members of their families for civilian specialties. From 1997 to 2002, he was the rector of the Saint Petersburg International Institute for Advanced Studies “Perspektiva.” In 1998, he defended his Candidate’s dissertation. He worked as deputy director of the Center for Management and Marketing “Progress,” heading the Saint Petersburg Interregional Resource Center.
