Tunnel excavation work for the next stage of metro construction has started in Nizhny Novgorod.
“The development of the metro system in a big city is one of the priorities of transport policy. It is not only about the comfort and mobility of passengers, but also the connectivity of districts, the development of the urban environment, and a new impulse for the economy. The project to extend the Avtozavodskaya metro line in Nizhny Novgorod is an important part of the city’s modern transport infrastructure. An increase in passenger flow is expected in the upper part of the city, specifically at the stations “Sennaya” and “Ploshchad Svobody,” up to 12.5 million people per year. The tunneling complex “Evdokia” has commenced work.””His task is to go through the left bypass tunnel about 730 meters long,” said Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
The tunnel-boring complex “Evdokia” weighs more than 590 tons, its length is over 80 meters.
“Today, the metro continues to develop in the region, including with the involvement of infrastructure loan funds. On the IBK line, metro and light rail construction projects are being implemented in Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Krasnoyarsk, and Chelyabinsk. The metro line in Nizhny Novgorod is being extended by 3 km, which will allow connecting districts and main transport hubs, guaranteeing additional comfort and safety of trips for Nizhny Novgorod residents and city guests.””This federal support mechanism works on the development of the urban environment and influences the improvement of people’s quality of life,” noted the first deputy minister of construction and housing and communal services Alexander Lomakin.
The entire project envisages the extension of the Avtozavodskaya line by 3.06 km using the closed method with the construction of two shallow-founded stations: “Ploshchad Svobody” and “Sennaya.”
“This is another, but very important stage of tunnel construction work, during which the existing metro line and new stations in the historic center of Nizhny will be connected. The metro builders have already constructed two tunnels with a total length of 3 km from the ‘Sennaya’ station to Svobody Square under conditions of cramped urban development. Now, two more tunnels remain to be completed — with a total complexity of about 1500 m — to move on to the stage of constructing the main structures of the station complexes on the finishing stretch,” said Gleb Nikitin, the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The construction project of the Nizhny Novgorod metro line is being carried out by the forces of the group of companies “Mosproekt-3.” Previously, metro builders have already completed work in the two metro tunnels as part of the extension of the Avtozavodskaya line between the future stations “Sennaya” and “Ploshchad Svobody.”
The infrastructure loan program is overseen by the Ministry, and the Territorial Development Fund is responsible for supporting project implementation.
