Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated the winners of the fifth season of the children’s science-popular video contest “Do You Know? Learn!”

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the award ceremony for the contest winners took place at a historic site, the premises of the M. Gorky Film Studio, and that during the five years of the contest’s existence within the Decade of Science and Technology, its own history and legacy have already appeared. He added that the young laureates are doing very important, useful work.

The national project “Youth and Children,” following the directive of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, is intended to create opportunities for the realization of your talents. In the course of joint work with Rosmolodezh and the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization “National Priorities,” within its framework we see how the attitude towards science is changing in our country. According to sociological surveys, 71% of parents wish for you to connect your life with science. For this number to grow, it is necessary to continue to vividly, talentfully, interestingly, and clearly tell about complex things in simple words, show and do so that everyone wants to follow your example. You are great, we are proud of you. And I hope that in your life everything worked out and you were able to fully take advantage of the opportunities that our country provides,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

He also noted that Russia occupies a significant place in world science.

“There is an instruction for us to elevate our volume of scientific developments into the top ten worldwide. Competing with other countries that invest heavily in science is extremely difficult, but Russia ranks eighth. This indicates that we invest enough to make science here interesting and to engage in it effectively,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

At the conclusion, the Vice Prime Minister wished the guys not to limit themselves to just this competition, but to look for ways to apply themselves.

Dmitry Chernyshenko presented an award to Dmitry Zhavoronkov from Moscow for a video about an intelligent full-cycle container recycling system. The project took first place in the category “Device of the Future: From Idea to Drawing.”

The General Director of ANO “National Priorities” – the organizer of the competition – Sofia Malyavina presented the award to one of the youngest winners of the competition – Egor Perelygin from Moscow, who became the best in the nomination “Device of the Future: From Idea to Drawing.”

“Children have become much bolder in presenting material, have learned to hold the audience’s attention and seek non-standard formats. But the main thing is the attitude towards science itself has changed. It has ceased to be perceived as something complicated and inaccessible. Participants get the opportunity to introduce themselves, get acquainted with representatives of the scientific community and leading universities, feel that interest in research is really important and in demand,” commented Sofya Malyavina.

This year, 2,000 schoolchildren aged 6 to 18 competed in six thematic categories: “A digital look at the planet: satellites and drones,” “Smart materials in the city of the future,” “Engine building,” “Science – history – human,” “Instructions on artificial intelligence understood by everyone,” “Device of the future: from idea to drawing.” The jury determined the winners based on four criteria: mastery of the topic and its disclosure, originality of the concept, visual quality and editing, and the level of material presentation.

In the fifth season of the competition, partners in the special nominations “Best Mentor” and “Best School” were the Russian Friendship University named after Patrice Lumumba and the Vyzov Foundation. The best mentor was recognized as Fyodor Pavlov, a literature teacher at Moscow School No. 1557. The winner in the “Best School” nomination was Moscow School No. 338 named after Hero of the Soviet Union A.F. Avdeev. The third special nomination by the number of directed works was traditionally “Marathon of Regions” — the rating of five winners included Moscow, Stavropol Krai, Moscow Oblast, Saint Petersburg, and the Republic of Tatarstan.
