Kaliningrad /Russia/, May 27 /Xinhua/ — The Kaliningrad Amber Combine — the only enterprise in the world for industrial amber mining — intends to actively promote Baltic amber in China. This was stated in an interview with correspondent Xinhua by the general director of the enterprise, Mikhail Zatsepin.

“Our task is to make as many people as possible fall in love with amber, especially in China. We know that in China they love this stone, and there should be as much of it there as possible,” emphasized M. Zatsepin.

The Kaliningrad amber plant was established in 1947 and is located in the Kaliningrad region, where about 90 percent of the world’s explored amber reserves are concentrated. In 2014, the enterprise was transferred under the management of the Russian state corporation “Rostec” and is now owned by the holding “RT-Finance.” Amber extraction currently reaches 600 tons per year.

According to M. Zatsepin, the plant is a full-cycle enterprise — it not only extracts amber, but also produces jewelry and other items from it. “There is no industrial amber extraction anywhere in the world today. In the amber industry, we are leaders — not only in our country, but also abroad,” emphasized the general director.

Speaking about the priority sales market, he especially highlighted China: about 80% of the mined raw materials of the plant are sold precisely in the territory of the PRC. The company’s employees recently visited the Chinese city of Harbin (Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China), where amber products were presented at the China-Russia EXPO. The plant has already opened a branded store in Shenzhen (Guangdong Province, South China).

“In the near future, we plan to open a wonderful museum there so that the residents of China can immerse themselves in the history of amber mining and processing right from the very beginning,” added M. Zatsepine.

The Kaliningrad Amber Factory is actively developing the tourism sector. On its territory operates the museum space “Amber Chamber,” where tourists can try to extract amber on their own.

In 2025, the enterprise was visited by about 160 thousand people. “People come and show interest. This indicates that our work on popularizing amber is yielding results. And we intend to continue making people fall in love with it all over the world,” M. Zatsepine concluded.
