Moscow, May 27 /Xin Hua/ — The holding of the jubilee 10th Russian-Chinese youth summer games in the Kaliningrad region is a special honor for the region and testifies to the strong friendship between the peoples of the two countries. This was stated on Monday by the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Alexey Besprozvanny, in an exclusive interview with correspondent Xin Hua.

Competitions will be held from May 24 to 31.

“The fact that today we are holding the 10th anniversary Russian-Chinese Youth Games — is a special honor for the region. We are always glad to show how Russia is developing, how the western outpost of the country is developing,” the governor emphasized.

According to A. Besprozvanny, the region has extensive experience in hosting major international competitions, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which allowed the development of advanced sports infrastructure.

For the preparation of the games, the Russian side carried out a large-scale modernization of sports facilities. The central arena of the competitions became the multifunctional fitness and wellness complex “Avtotor Arena” with an area of about 42 thousand square meters, where competitions in 27 sports can be held simultaneously. In addition, the region got one of the largest climbing walls in the country, with a six-story building, as well as two additional warm-up areas.

“Table tennis is one of the favorite sports in China, as far as I know. We have purchased new equipment, tables, and made new coverings. Everything was done to ensure comfort for our athletes,” noted the Russian governor.

A. Besprozvanny obviously noted that holding competitions in this format has a long-term effect for the region: all modernized infrastructure after the completion of the games will continue to serve the residents of the oblast and be used for competitions of various scales.

Speaking about the importance of youth sports exchanges for Russian-Chinese humanitarian cooperation, the governor emphasized that sport has always united people and opened up new opportunities for communication.

“Young people communicate with each other, get to know each other better. Where else but in communication can you talk about your country? Usually, after such events, many friendly relationships are formed. Then they turn into long-term relationships, and friends start visiting each other,” he noted.

“I want every athlete traveling to these games to set a goal for themselves that they will achieve. Also, I want more friendly ties, partnerships, and good relationships to develop within our framework during these games,” summarized A. Besprozvanny. –0–
