Dushanbe, May 26 /Xinhua/ — The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday proposed to create a Dushanbe framework program on water issues with the aim of strengthening international cooperation and promoting the practical implementation of the global water agenda.

With the corresponding initiative of E. Rahmon, he spoke at the opening ceremony of the 4th International High-Level Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development” /2018-2028/, held in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, within the framework of the Dushanbe water process.

According to the President of Tajikistan, despite the progress made, the world still faces serious challenges in the water sector. To address the existing problems, the international community is implementing significant initiatives at the global, regional, and national levels aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of water resources.

The Tajik leader noted that today the inevitability of a transition to a new stage of global cooperation in the water sector has matured. He emphasized that the proposed Dushanbe framework program on water issues will be able to strengthen existing interaction processes, as well as create favorable conditions for the coordination and unification of joint efforts in order to achieve practical results.

The formation of the global water agenda after 2030 should be based on the results of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” and the experience of the Dushanbe water process, E. Rahmon indicated.
