Tehran, May 26 /Xinhua/ — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued an order to restore access to the international internet to the level that existed before the January unrest. This was reported on Monday by the news agency Tasnim.
The directive was handed over to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies on Monday and approved by the special government cyber operations headquarters, headed by the first vice-president Mohammad Reza Aref.
According to ISNA agency data, the decree will come into effect on Tuesday.
Iran restricted access to the international internet on January 8, when nationwide demonstrations due to economic problems, including a sharp decline in the rial exchange rate, escalated into clashes that led to human casualties and damage to public property, including mosques and government buildings. Tehran accused the USA and Israel of organizing the unrest.
Access to the international internet was restored for a short time a few weeks ago, but restrictions returned after the start of the American-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. –0–
