Beijing, May 26 /Xinhua/ — China’s e-commerce sector demonstrated steady growth during the first four months of 2026, with the sector continuing to stimulate consumption growth and expand the real economy sector’s capabilities, data published by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC on Tuesday shows.

From January to April of this year, retail online sales of goods and services in China grew by 6.6 percent year-on-year, while the share of retail online sales of goods in the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 72.2 percent.

According to the data from the aforementioned ministry, during the reporting period, online sales of agricultural products increased by 12.2%, while the value of transactions in the field of electronic trading of metal and chemical products increased by 34.8% and 12.2%, respectively.

Electronic commerce also contributed to the rapid growth of service sectors such as tourism and public catering, while online sales in the fields of tourism and catering increased by 33.2% and 20%, respectively.

According to the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, thanks to the initiative of electronic commerce “Silk Road,” some partner countries have increased exports to China: in the first four months of the current year, online sales of Thai durians, beverages from the UAE, and Italian casual trousers grew by 344.8%, 78.6%, and 22.8%, respectively. -0-
