Jakarta, May 25 /Sina/ — Indonesia on Sunday welcomed the return of nine citizens who participated in the “Global Fleet Sumud,” after being detained by Israeli authorities following the seizure of the vessel near Cyprus on May 18. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.
Activists who joined the protest arrived in Jakarta on Sunday after being released from detention on May 21 in Israeli Ashdod, according to a press release from the department.
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the release and repatriation became possible thanks to active diplomatic and consular efforts, as well as coordination of actions with the relevant parties.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed deep gratitude to the Turkish government for its role and support in assisting the release of Indonesian citizens.
