Chongqing, May 24 /Xin Hua/ — Three people died, 17 went missing as a result of heavy rain in the Yunchuan area of the centrally administered city of Chongqing /Southwest China/ on Saturday evening. Local authorities reported this.
In addition, two people are reported missing after heavy rain flooded the Baybay district in this city.
Currently, search and rescue operations and work to eliminate the consequences of bad weather are being conducted at full capacity.
According to the Chongqing headquarters for flood and drought control, from 14:00 on Sunday, the city administration activated a level 1 emergency response for floods at the municipal level for the Yunchuan district. Also, at the city level, for 29 other districts and counties of Chongqing, including the Junchan district and Beibei district, a level 2 response was activated, and for 9 districts and counties, including the Youyizhun district, a level 3 response was activated.
According to the local headquarters for flood control and rescue operations, a heavy downpour fell on the Yunchuan district from Saturday evening to Sunday morning. Between 02:00 and 04:00 on Sunday, the maximum amount of precipitation recorded in the Chashanchugu quarter was 296.6 mm, and the maximum hourly precipitation intensity reached 103.6 mm.
The maximum amount of precipitation in the Sinlun settlement of the Beibei district was 122.9 mm during the period from 00:00 to 03:00 on Sunday, with the maximum hourly precipitation intensity reaching 59.4 mm, reported the district department for emergency management.
Heavy downpours have fallen on 22 districts and counties in Chuntsin, and water levels in 22 rivers in the territory of this city have exceeded the flood warning levels, according to data from the Chuntsin hydrological station.
On Sunday, the State Committee for the Prevention of Emergencies, Minimization and Consequences Elimination, and Assistance to Victims introduced a level 4 emergency response regime in connection with floods and geological disasters in Chuntsine.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, a working group was sent to the area affected by the natural disaster to assess the situation on the ground and provide assistance to local authorities and leadership in managing the response efforts, including ensuring the basic vital needs of the affected population.
