Baghdad, May 23 /Xin Hua/ — Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi discussed by phone on Friday evening the current state of negotiations between Tehran and Washington. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq reported this on Saturday.

According to the statement, A. Aragchi informed the Iraqi colleague about the progress achieved in the current round of negotiations.

F. Hussein emphasized the necessity of ending the military actions in the Hormuz Strait as soon as possible and working on lifting the blockade against Iran.

Ministers also noted the role of Pakistan in facilitating negotiations and the importance of Qatar’s participation at the current stage.

Iran, the United States, and Israel reached ceasefire agreements on April 8 after 40 days of hostilities that began on February 28.

After the ceasefire agreement, the delegations of Iran and the USA held a round of negotiations in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, but were unable to reach an agreement.
