Saint Petersburg, May 22 /Xin Hua/ — The final stage of the All-Russian Chinese language competition “Chinese Language is a Bridge” among students and schoolchildren was held on Thursday in Saint Petersburg. It was attended by 39 people, including 18 high school students and 21 university students from the country’s leading universities.

Speaking at an event, the Consul General of the PRC in Saint Petersburg, Luo Changxue, noted that alongside deepening cooperation between China and Russia in the fields of technology, economy, and humanitarian exchanges, there is a demand for people capable of ensuring precise communication. He called on students from both countries to diligently study Chinese and Russian in order to contribute to bilateral interaction in the future. According to him, “In the hands of the contest participants there is not just a microphone, it is the key and the future behind it.”

The competition included stages such as thematic presentations and performances on a given topic, talent shows, answers to questions about the Chinese language, Chinese culture, and China. As a result of fierce competition, the winners were 18-year-old Irina Gavrilova and 14-year-old Taisia Sitnitskaya.

“I have been studying Chinese for four years. I love Chinese culture, songs, and Peking opera. I love traveling, have been to Shanhaiguan, Harbin, and Kunming, and in the future, I want to visit Sichuan Province to see the giant panda,” said T. Sitnitskaya in an interview with Xinhua.

The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of the PRC in Russia and the General Consulate of the PRC in Saint Petersburg, the Confucius Institute at Saint Petersburg State University, and CHUODO “Academy of Eastern Languages and Cultures ‘Confucius’.” –0–
