Changsha, May 21 /Xinhua/ — As of 08:00 Thursday, prolonged heavy rains have caused the death of 6 people in Shimian County in Hunan Province /Central China/, and 10 more are reported missing. This was reported by local authorities.
A heavy downpour, the first this year in the specified district, began on Sunday at 7 a.m. A total of 23 settlements were affected, according to the department for emergency situations management of the city of Chande, to which the Shimeng district is administratively subordinate.
Currently, search and rescue operations are underway at the site, as well as work to restore damaged infrastructure and provide for the everyday needs of the affected residents.
